Deputies of the State Duma supported the bill on transferring the rights to create a registry of livestock breeders to the Ministry of Agriculture to protect against epidemics. Previously, a similar measure was in place in Russia until 2008.

A bill proposed by State Duma deputies has received support in the first reading. It aims to amend the law "On animal breeding" and provides for transferring the authority to the Ministry of Agriculture to create the corresponding registry. One of the initiative's authors, Andrey Anikeev, a member of the State Duma Committee on Agricultural Issues, announced this.

The deputy emphasized that such a decision will help protect livestock breeders from possible cattle epidemics.

Anikeev also gave an example that such a measure already existed in Russia before 2008 but was abolished after changes in legislation.
