The use of robots in the food industry is actively growing: from meat cutting to vegetable sorting. Innovations also affect the production of eco-friendly packaging and new products, including plant-based meat alternatives. Trends in the field of nutrition are determined by consumer expectations and the need to reduce food waste.

The National Consortium of Russia will develop 15 new hybrids of sunflower by 2030 as part of the agricultural development program. Several companies are involved in the project, including Ruseed, Bio-Ton, Efko, and VNIIMK. Scientists from VNIIMK will be involved in breeding, Ruseed will provide production facilities, while Bio-Ton and Efko will be responsible for the implementation of the new hybrids. The consortium aims to ensure the commercialization of the product.

In Russia, a law on the development of seed farming has been adopted, creating special zones for this industry and protecting the rights of local breeders. The goal is to achieve self-sufficiency in seeds at a level of 90%. Scientific and educational centers are developing innovative methods to increase the productivity of agricultural animals. Technical hemp is used for the production of valuable materials and food products. A hydroponics center is being established.

In 2023, 7 new varieties of agricultural crops from breeders from the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution "Rossorgo" have been added. The varieties are adapted to the natural-climatic conditions of the Volga region, will improve the production and processing of agricultural products. Kulon is an early-maturing variety of sorghum recommended for cultivation in the Urals region. Printz is a variety of grain sorghum approved for multiple regions, also used in animal feed. Isolda is a variety of sugar sorghum for green fodder, approved in two regions. Black Pearl is a variety of chickpeas for food and feed, recommended for the North Caucasus region. Lada is a variety of vetch for feed, drought-resistant, recommended for the Lower Volga region. Youth 40 is a variety of milk thistle for oil production, approved in the Lower Volga region. Medunica is a variety of phacelia for honey and cover crop, resistant to diseases, permitted for use in all regions.
