It develops well on fertile loamy soils with a neutral reaction and a sufficient content of nutrients in an easily digestible form. Barley grain is a concentrated feed for farm animals. It is processed into cereals, flour, beer, a coffee substitute, etc. Straw and chaff are also fed to livestock.
