The Coceral Association has presented a fresh forecast on the soft wheat harvest, which brought sad news. According to the updated data, the harvest volume will decrease by 7.7 million tonnes, dropping from 122.6 million tonnes in June to 114.9 million tonnes in September. Compared to last year, this means a decrease of 11.5 million tonnes of harvest.
France and Germany were especially affected, witnessing the largest declines in harvest. The French forecast was reduced by 4.1 million tonnes compared to June, while Germany's decreased by 1.8 million tonnes. Both countries suffered from a reduction in winter wheat planting areas due to prolonged rains in 2023 and a lack of sunny days in the spring of 2024 in Western Europe.
Furthermore, the forecasts also indicate a significant reduction in harvest in Belgium (by 0.4 million tonnes), Denmark (by 0.4 million tonnes), and Sweden (by 0.37 million tonnes).
