During the first seven months of 2024, railway freight transportation in containers in Ukraine reached an impressive figure of 160,268 thousand twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). These data were announced at a meeting of the Export Office at Ukrzaliznytsia on August 14 and were published on the Rail.insider portal.
Compared to the same period last year, the number of transported containers increased by 58%.
“This means that an absolute record volume of transportation was set for the first seven months. This figure even exceeds pre-war indicators,” highlighted Valeriy Tkachev, Deputy Director of the Department of Transportation Technology and Commercial Affairs at Ukrzaliznytsia.
Furthermore, the company plans to develop a project in the near future aimed at concluding contracts for a specific period and at a fixed cost of fitting platforms. This project is similar to the system of long-term contracts.
“The work on this project will be carried out by the branch ‘Leski Center for Transport Services.’ The working principle will be the same: a fixed fee will be established for the use of fitting platforms depending on the volume of cargo. The cost will be fixed for an agreed period between the carrier and the cargo owner,” explained Andrey Miroshnikov, Acting Director of the Department of Transportation Technology and Commercial Affairs at Ukrzaliznytsia.
