According to the report, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has introduced a constitutional reform bill to Congress aimed at protecting corn by banning the cultivation of GMO corn.

Sheinbaum highlighted that these amendments affect Articles 4 and 27 of the Constitution, which establish corn as a symbol of the Mexican people's national identity and simultaneously prohibit the cultivation of transgenic corn in the country.

The President emphasized the historical connection of Mesoamerica with corn, which has been domesticated in the distant past. Sheinbaum stated that "without corn, there is no country."

It is worth noting that the United States and Mexico have previously faced conflicts due to former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador's decision to ban the use of genetically modified corn in human food. The U.S. demanded the reversal of this decision, citing a violation of the free trade agreement.
