The Minister of Agriculture Oksana Lut took part in a business breakfast organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as reported by the Russian Ministry of Agriculture. She acquainted business representatives with the priorities for the development of agriculture until 2030.
Speaking about the restriction on seed imports, the minister noted that this measure is introduced for the first time and applies only to supplies from unfriendly countries. None of the quotas has been fully utilized in any direction. However, this year has seen a noticeable increase in the use of domestic seeds, including sunflower and soybeans. The level of self-sufficiency in sugar beet seeds, which were previously entirely imported, is also increasing. This indicates the effectiveness of the measures taken.
Addressing the improvement of the crop insurance system, Oksana Lut emphasized that it is a reliable mechanism to protect businesses from risks associated with weather conditions. Over the past 5 years, the insured sown area has increased to 11.3 million hectares. The Ministry of Agriculture continues to improve this tool in the interests of agriculture. In particular, cooperation with Roshydromet is underway to incorporate data from private weather stations and verify weather-related disasters.
